Cultivating Therapeutic Presence and Self-Care:
Therapeutic Rhythm and Meditation Workshop for Health Professionals and Educators
Being fully present is the most valuable gift we can give to clients, students, and ourselves. In a busy and demanding world, presence can be compromised. Therapeutic presence, which includes feeling grounded, calm, spacious, and immersed, can be cultivated with awareness and practice. Therapeutic Rhythm and Mindfulness (TRM) is an innovative program incorporating drumming, mindfulness and emotional reflection to help cultivate presence and reduce the barriers (i.e. stress, busy pace, technology) to being fully in the moment. Rhythm modalities offer a fun and expressive way of releasing bodily held stress while mindfulness offers tools to be with what emerges in the present, in an accepting and compassionate way. Group drumming and mindfulness practices have both been found to reduce stress, decrease burnout, increase vitality and immune functioning, and enhance attention, focus and present moment awareness.
No previous drumming or meditation experience required.

The Cultivation of Therapeutic Presence Through Mindfulness
Therapeutic Presence is the state of having one's whole self in the encounter with another by being completely in the moment on a multiplicity of levels—physically, emotionally, cognitively, and spiritually. TP involves being grounded in one's self, while being open and immersed in what is poignant in the moment with a larger sense of spaciousness. This grounded, immersed, and expanded awareness is offered in service of another's healing. TP is viewed as the essential foundation to developing a positive and healthy therapeutic relationship.
Mindfulness is a practice that helps to cultivate a state of therapeutic presence. Mindfulness involves paying attention to the present moment on purpose and with intention. In this workshop you will learn about an empirically based model of therapeutic presence as well as practice mindfulness as a way to cultivate therapeutic presence.
